            CP/M VERSION 2.2

CP/M 2.2 provides the following
enhancements over CP/M 1.4:

  1. Improved BDOS functions and
      in particular support for
      Random Access Files accessed
      using machine code programs.

  2. File attributes for access
(read/write and read only) and for
      disclosure (hides files from
      directory listings when using the
      DIR function and SYS attribute).

  3. Division of disc directory into
      16 user areas.

  4. V24 (RS232C) serial input as CP/M
      logical device RDR.

  5. Fast disc-to-disc copying utility
      (FASTCOPY).

  6. Simplified creation and copying of
      CP/M system disc utility
      (COPYSYS).

Compatibility with CP/M 1.4

CP/M version 2.2 is upwards compatible
with version 1.4. However, version 2.2
occupies 1K bytes more than version 1.4.
Consequently, the space available for
user programs in the TPA is 1K bytes
less. This reduction may cause large
programs that run under version 1.4 to
be too large to run under version 2.2.

In order to read files created under
version 2.2 with a version 1.4 system,
files should be created with the default
attribute settings of 'Read/Write' and
'DIR'. These files should also be stored
in USER 0.

After reading this Release Note, please
read the description in the 380Z Disc
System User Guide, PN 10915 or in
Technical Information Brief Number 2,
PN 10919, on copying a CP/M system using
COPYSYS. When you have created a
working system disc you should lock your
MASTER DISTRIBUTION DISC in a safe
place.
