Although we have gone to great pains to make UTMOST as easy to use and as
self-teaching as possible, some obscurities still exist. These are largely
due to the heavy dependence upon standard UNix system utilities to
implement many of the UTMOST functions.

For example, you will frequently encounter a message displayed at the
bottom of your screen which says:

	--- More ---

This is an indication that the system has more information to display.
In order to continue displaying the information, depress the space bar
for the next page. In order to stop the display and return to the UTMOST
menu, type the letter 'q'.

When using the executive support software, you will encounter displays of
tabular information. This is usually preceeded by a message stating
"Dispwin starting". The displays themselves will consist of data arranged
in tables with vertical bars and dashes or solid lines separating the
table entries. To find out how to view these tables or exit the dispwin
program, simply type a "?". You will then be presented with a display of
valid commands to dispwin.

Other messages may be generated from time to time by the Unix system.
For example, you may receive a message:

	Write from jan tty3...

Which indicates that user "jan" is trying to communicate with you from
display terminal "tty3". Obviously, this message will differ depending
on who is trying to write to you. You can respond to the message by
entering the "Electronic Mail" menu and selecting the "Write to a user
currently on the system" option.

Other system messages may come to you directly from Unix indicating various
error conditions. These messages should be noted along with the exact
circumstances which led to their receipt and this information passed to
your system administrator.

UTMOST will frequently "prompt" you for additional information. Sometimes,
a "default" will be mentioned. This refers to the action UTMOST will
assume should you simply depress the "RETURN" key rather than keying
in information. If you choose to provide the information requested it will
override the default information. If no default is mentioned, then the
requested information must be supplied.

It is strongly advised that you take full advantage of the system help
facilities. These provide general tutorial information along with
specific help for all UTMOST system functions. In particular, if you are
a new UTMOST user, be sure check out the Help menu option from the Main
menu.
