News flashes alert you to unusual circumstances that affect stock prices.
They consist of a short news story which
mentions the name of a fast-food chain and the amount of the potential
increase or decrease in stock prices.
This amount is always given as a percentage
and indicates the maximum effect the news flash could have.

All news flashes are reported in the "Fast Food Journal".

News flashes occur "randomly" at the time of an update and
are not influenced by the actions of the players. The
actual effect does not show up until the next update, (giving you
a chance to dump or buy the stock in question), and is a randomly
chosen value between 0% and the percentage mentioned. For example:

Due to probes from the A.S.P.C.A. and the National Wildlife Assoc. the food
chain known as Beastly Feasts has dropped two items from its menu. Denying
that the abbreviated menu may cause as much as a 40% loss of business, a
spokesman noted, "The Bowser Burger and Rat-A-Tooey weren't selling anyway".

From this you should conclude that the stock price of "Beastly Feasts" will
drop to as little as 60% of it's current price (or somewhere else in the
60% - 100% range) at the next update.
