Foundation Service Pack Release Notes
-------------------------------------

INTRODUCTION
The Foundation Service Pack upgrades Xilinx Foundation v6.0.1 to v6.0.2.
This upgraded version features many enhancments that will make the Foundation
tools easier to use and will greatly improve your design productivity.

The Service Pack comes as a set of three main installation programs as well
as a self-extracting compressed file that contains updated application notes
and tutorials. This multi-file approach facilitates easier downloading of the
Service Pack from the Xilinx ftp/bbs sites.

Once you have installed the Service Pack, you should review the What's New
Help file (WHATSNEW.HLP). This document contains comprehensive information
on the Service Pack - e.g., Resolved Issues as well as the Known Problems
that remain. In addition, it contains sections on Frequently Asked Questions
and Application Notes. The XVHDL compiler enhancements are covered in a
separate Help file, called WHATNEWX.HLP.

1. Service Pack Versions
------------------------
There are three parts of the Service Pack:
* Service Pack A, which contains upgrade files for Project Manager, Schematic
Editor, Symbol Editor, Library Manager and HDL Editor Wizard.
* Service Pack B, which contains upgrade files for the Logic Simulator.
* Service Pack V (XVHDL Service Pack), which contains the latest XVHDL
  Compiler, version 2.4.4

In addition, Version 1a of the Foundation Documentation Update Pack is
included as a separate self-extracting zip file. See FNDDOC1A.TXT for
details.

The three parts of the Service Pack are upgrades for Xilinx Foundation Series
Version 6.0.1 (CD Build 31). You can install any or all parts of the Service
Pack in any order; it is recommended that you install all three parts.

  NOTE:
If you want to verify which Service Packs are currently installed, choose the
Help/About menu command in any Foundation application such as Schematic
Editor. (FSM and HDL editors do not include this feature) The About
Foundation window may contain one of these entries in the Version field:
Service Pack A if you have installed Service Pack A,
Service Pack B if you have installed Service Pack B,
Service Pack A+B if you have installed both Packs.
The Help/About windows do not display any information about Service Pack V.
You can find out if Service Pack V is installed by checking the Metamor
version number, which is displayed whenever you run the VHDL compiler.

2. Upgrading Rules
-----------------
To install the Service Pack, you will need to have the Xilinx Foundation Series
6.0.1 software installed on your computer. Service Pack will detect the current
version of the software and will install its files only if it is the 6.0.1
version.

If you do not have any version of the Foundation software installed, the Service
Pack Setup will terminate with the message:

Foundation software has not been detected.

If you have a version different than 6.0.1, the Service Pack Setup will
terminate with the message:

Service Pack cannot upgrade this version of software.

3. Installation Procedure
-------------------------
The installation procedure is the same for all three parts of the Service Pack.
Each part comes as a single executable file (SPXA.EXE for Service Pack A,
SPXB.EXE for Service Pack B, and SPXV.EXE for Service Pack V).

To install the Service Pack:

* Run the Service Pack file (SPXA.EXE, SPXB.EXE, or SPXV.EXE). You can run it
from any disk location. The file will extract files to a temporary directory
and start the Service Pack Setup utility. A dialog window will open showing
the required and available disk space, and the path either for Foundation
executable files (Service Packs A and B) or for Foundation VHDL files
(Service Pack V). You cannot change these paths during the upgrade.

* If you want the original executable files to be preserved in a separate
subdirectory, leave the 'Backup the Original Files' box checked (the box is
checked by default). A backup subdirectory (BAK) will be created in the
Foundation directory (usually \ACTIVE), and the original executable will be
copied therein. If you don't need to make the backup, clear the check box.
The backup option is not available for Service Pack V.

* Click the 'Install the Schematic Pack button' if you want to proceed with
installation, or click the 'Abort the Setup' if you want to abort the
  upgrade.

When installation is complete, please review the release notes Help file
provided with the Service Pack. You will find it (WHATSNEW.HLP) in the
Foundation executable directory. The Help file is automatically displayed
when you finish the installation of Service Pack parts A and B.

For information on the XVHDL compiler enhancements that , please refer to the
WHATNEWX.HLP Help file, located in \ACTIVE\VHDL.

4. Uninstallation
----------------
If you have installed Service Pack with the option "Backup the Original Files'
enabled, you can easily uninstall this upgrade using the UNINSTSP.EXE program.
This program is inserted along with the upgrade files into the Foundation
executable directory (usually \ACTIVE\EXE). The uninstaller restores the
original executable files from the Service Pack backup subdirectory (BAK).
Uninstallation is not available for Service Pack V.
