Xilinx has a three tier strategy for providing cores

1. Expand availability of cores through partnerships

We’re building up a network of mutually-beneficial relationship with 3rd party core providers that will provide cores to Xilinx FPGAs. In those partnerships, we will provide our expertise gained from over 200 sold LogiCORE PCI licenses, leading FPGA technology, and marketing channels. Partners will provide system-level design expertise and existing cores.Emphasis will be on quality over quantity

2. Provide selected cores and enabling technologies

Internal development resources will be focused on tools and methodologies that simplify development and use of FPGA cores.We will continue to develop selected cores that cannot be developed externally, e.g., the PCI cores that push the FPGA technology to the limit. We will also develop key building blocks for high-density design

3. Build Support Infrastructure - Design Centers

We’re building a network of 3rd party design centers and consultants, that can provide design services.

Xilinx CORE program is a combination of different product categories. Definition:

LogiCORE: A core sold, distributed and supported by Xilinx

AllianceCORE: A core sold, distributed and supported by a Xilinx AllianceCORE partner. The core has gone through Xilinx productization process before promotion by Xilinx. A partner can only use the term AllianceCORE after the CORE has gone through Xilinx productization process. This ensures that the CORE has been optimized, verified and documented for Xilinx FPGAs.

Reference Design: Untested design example and application note. Normally free of charge

LogiBLOX: GUI driven module generator to generate Base Level Functions such as datapath and register modules. Included in Xilinx development tools

Design Center: Xilinx certified 3rd-party design resources with specific LogiCORE and/or AllianceCORE expertise

The program focuses on four major areas: 1) Bus Interfaces, 2) DSP functions, 3) Communication and Networking and 4) Base functions including commonly used peripherals, DMA controllers, memory interfaces UARTs etc.
