Adobe Acrobat Search

The Search plug-in for Adobe Acrobat allows full text searching across all the PDF documents on the AppLINX CD-ROM. If you are interested in a specific topic, this is the best way to find the relevant documents on the CD-ROM. The AppLINX CD-ROM contains the Adobe Acrobat reader, including the Search plug-in. If you do not have the Search plug-in (look for the Tools - Search command in Acrobat), you should install this version of the reader.

Searching

To perform a search, select the Acrobat icon with the binoculars in front of a sheet of paper, or select Tools - Search - Query. You do not need to open a PDF file first. The first time you do a search, you will have to tell Acrobat what Indexes you want to use.

Search Indexes

Three indexes have been created for the AppLINX CD-ROM, allowing you to select what types of documents you want to search. Select Indexes... in the Search dialog box, or select Tools - Search - Indexes... from the menus. Then select the Add... command.

After adding all three indexes, you will have the option of selecting a subset of the three for any search.

Other Search Tools

A few other search tools are available to you. Within any single Acrobat PDF document, the Find command (Tools - Find...) will look for text within the document. This can be especially useful when searching the 1996 Data Book. Note that the complete Data Book (single PDF file) also has a hotlinked Index.

If you have an Internet connection, you can use Xilinx  SmartSearch to search not only the Xilinx web site, but dozens of other sites related to programmable logic. You can also set up Agents to watch for new documents on the web.
