Installing Adobe Acrobat Viewer with Search

The AppLINX CD-ROM contains the Adobe Acrobat reader, which is needed to view most Xilnix documents. This version includes the Acrobat Search plug-in. Acrobat Search makes it easy to find the information you need among the hundreds of Acrobat PDF documents on the AppLINX CD-ROM. Acrobat Search is a full-text search utility, even finding text within graphics. Simply select the Search toolbar button, enter the words or phrases of interest, and instantly find the most relevant documents on the CD-ROM.

This 3.0 version of Acrobat also includes the Weblink plug-in, allowing you to link back to your web browser.

Note that there are versions for both 16-bit and 32-bit Windows. Also note that Quicktime need not be installed for the AppLINX CD-ROM.

For Windows 3.1

  1. Using the File Manager, select the CD-ROM drive
  2. Go to the directory \acrobat\acrowin\16bit
  3. Double-click on setup.exe to install the reader
  4. Select the Acrobat icon to start the reader
  5. Select File - Open and choose the \APPLINX.PDF file on the CD-ROM drive

For Windows 95/NT

  1. Select the CD-ROM drive
  2. Go to the directory \acrobat\acrowin\32bit
  3. Double-click on setup.exe to install the reader
  4. Select the Acrobat icon to start the reader
  5. Select File - Open and choose the \APPLINX.PDF file on the CD-ROM drive

For SunOS Systems

  1. As root, mount the CD-ROM by typing /etc/mount /dev/sr0 /cdrom
  2. Type cd /cdrom/acrobat/acrounix
  3. Type ./install
  4. Start the Acrobat reader (invoke /bin/acroread)
  5. Select File - Open and choose the /cdrom/applinx.pdf file on the CD-ROM drive

For Solaris Systems

  1. As root, mount the CD-ROM by typing /etc/mount /dev/sr0 /cdrom
  2. Type cd /cdrom/acrobat/acrosol
  3. Type ./install
  4. Start the Acrobat reader (invoke /bin/acroread)
  5. Select File - Open and choose the /cdrom/applinx.pdf file on the CD-ROM drive

For HP Systems

  1. As root, mount the CD-ROM by typing /etc/mount /dev/dsk/c0t3d0 /cdrom
  2. Type cd /cdrom/ACROBAT/acrohpux
  3. Type ./install
  4. Start the Acrobat reader (invoke /bin/acroread)
  5. Select File - Open and choose the /cdrom/APPLINX.PDF file on the CD-ROM drive
