The Xilinx University Program was established in 1985 to promote the education and research of FPGAs and programmable logic technologies. Since then, Xilinx has worked closely with hundreds of universities worldwide to bring state-of-the-art Programmable Logic Devices to classrooms and laboratories.
Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs) are used extensively in engineering curriculum because they provide the ultimate learning tool for digital design. Because of their flexibility and ease of use, Xilinx FPGAs are used for a variety of exciting digital applications such as reconfigurable computing, processor architecture, DSP, telecom, In-System Programming, I/O logic, and almost anything one can imagine!
Xilinx FPGAs are also used in engineering curriculum because the FPGA market is one of the fastest growing and most important segments of the semiconductor industry. Engineering recruiters are demanding that today's engineering students know real digital design and FPGA technology because they use it themselves. Although the programmable logic industry is growing at 25% per year, the FPGA segment, a half-billion dollar per year industry, is growing closer to 40% per year. As the clear Programmable Logic leader in market share and in technology, Xilinx is the right choice for you and your students.
Special product offerings and prices have been created to help you obtain and utilize FPGAs and CPLDs for your classrooms. Discounts of greater than 50 percent are available; additional systems are discounted even more through products unique to the University Program. For new courses without adequate funding, Xilinx will also evaluate proposals for donations of Xilinx products. Xilinx, through the University Program, is committed to supporting your university in integrating state-of-the-art programmable logic devices into your curriculum.
To get started, just call or email me, Jason Feinsmith, for more information. I will send you more detailed information, course recommendations, and resources to make it easy and effective. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jason Feinsmith

If you have thought about teaching an engineering course which utilizes Programmable Logic technology, then attending one of Xilinx's University Workshops is a great way to get started. The world leader in Programmable Logic, Xilinx sponsors local workshops for professors and educators around the world.
The purpose of these free workshops is to teach professors about Xilinx FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), CPLDs (Complex Programmable Logic Devices), Dynamically Reconfigurable Logic, other programmable logic technologies; to show how to teach a course using the latest programmable logic technology; and to provide professors with the resources and advice to develop their own 1st through 5th year curriculum. Workshops are taught by both Xilinx professionals and by local professors who have experience with Xilinx products in their own coursework in such areas as introductory and upper level digital logic design, processor architecture, digital signal processing, and various advanced level projects. Instruction is usually given in English, but if the attendees native languages are homogenous, we do our best to accomodate.
Xilinx would like to recognize the following univerisities for hosting excellent workshops in the last two years.
We expect to offer workshops in many locations in the summer of 1997 as well. We will announce workshop locations in the early spring of 1997. If you are interested in attending a training seminar in your area before then, Xilinx also offers commercial training courses which are often similar to our dedicated university workshops. Regardless of where you are, if you are interested in attending a workshop, or even hosting one, please send us an email to let us know.
