Q: Who will develop and maintain the Xilinx libraries?

A: Today, Cadence maintains all of the libraries. Starting March 1, 1997, Xilinx will take over full support of the libraries for Concept, Composer, and Verilog-XL only. Synergy synthesis libraries will be available from Cadence.

Q: Are the libraries free or purchased, and who distributes them?

A: Concept, Composer, Verilog-XL: As of November 1, 1996, the Concept, Composer, and Verilog-XL libraries are sold only by Xilinx as part of the Xilinx Cadence interface.

The libraries are currently distributed on the Cadence release CD with the interface (translation) software. Patch updates are also available on the Cadence ftp site, ftp.cadence.com. When the customer purchases the Cadence interface from Xilinx, they submit a license requrest form for the Cadence translators to Xilinx Customer Service. Xilinx Customer Service forwards the form to Cadence Customer Service, who generates the license and sends it to the customer.

Starting with the Xilinx M1 Release, Xilinx will be the exclusive distributor of Concept, Composer, and Verilog-XL libraries.

Synergy: Cadence currently ships, and will continue to ship, the Synergy libraries for all Xilinx architectures.

Q: What if I only need the Verilog interface and library package?

A: From now, up until the M1 release, if the user only requires Verilog-XL simulation libraries, they may install ES-Verilog from the XACT 5.2.1 CD for Sun4 and HP workstations. The ES-Verilog package is supplied at no additional cost to users, and does not require a license. Until M1 ships, the Verilog translator is only available on workstation platforms.

When M1 ships, NGD2VER, a generic, vendor-independent Verilog netlister, will be shipped as a standard part of the Xilinx Core Tool suite, replacing ES-Verilog,

Q: How are libraries updated: between releases or in conjunction with them?

A: Currently, and until the Xilinx M1 release, Cadence libraries for Xilinx are shipped with each official Cadence release up to, and including, 9604. Library Patch updates are also supplied by Cadence between releases as needed on their ftp site, ftp://ftp.cadence.com.
