XCELL Newsletter
XCELL, the quarterly journal for Xilinx programmable logic users, is dedicated to supplying up-to-date information for system designers. A typical issue includes descriptions of new products, updates on component and software availability and revision levels, application ideas, design hints and techniques, and answers to frequently-asked technical questions.

Cumulative process improvements and reliability.
The use of a proven standard process has resulted in consistent and predictable product improvements. Enhancements made in earlier process generations are carried directly forward to current device offerings. Process enhancements become cumulative, resulting in higher yields at lower costs, higher speed, increased reliability and higher quality.

We do all the testing.
Unlike custom ASICs, Xilinx devices arrive fully-tested. The exhaustive test programs we use are the same for all customers and all applications, resulting in products of much higher quality. There are no test vectors for customers to write.
Continuing product improvements.
Xilinx parts are based on standard proven wafer fab processes, assembly processes and testing methodologies. This ensures continual improvements in process, assembly and test. In fact, over the last six years, Xilinx devices have seen a 40% per year improvement in speed, a 50% per year increase in density and a 45% per year decrease in silicon cost.
